Message from the IEA USA President: So Why “IEA-USA?"
|
Most of our members are aware that the IEA has formed a US affiliate, but many people are not quite sure why. I’d like to try to shed a little light on that:
The International Enneagram Association has always been an evolving organization. Originally founded by a group of United States-based teachers and hosting annual conferences in the US, the IEA has grown into a truly international organization and in the last few years conferences have also been held in Denmark, Spain, Brazil, and China.
To manage this growth, the IEA has
shifted to an affiliate
model with a global board of directors that coordinates activities of
the
national affiliates. The IEA (which has been informally rebranded
as “IEA
Global”) has also created a General Assembly of Affiliates, comprising
two
delegates from each affiliate that will serve as in an advisory capacity
to the
global board. This will ensure the sharing of information and best
practices,
as well as providing a forum where the concerns and interests of each
affiliate
are heard. The GAA will meet at the international conference each year
on the
day before the pre-conference event.
In alignment of this new model, IEA Global has formed a US affiliate. Many of the activities that have been traditionally managed for US members, such as the activities of the US Chapters, will be overseen by the IEA USA. Other activities, such as the organization of the annual international conference, will be taken on by the affiliates and in coming years the international conference will live up to its name and be held outside of the US. In addition, the IEA USA will organize local and national events across the US, in the same way that the other affiliates have been doing in recent years.
All of this is in the effort to help the IEA live up to its mission of providing a worldwide hub for the sharing of all developments in the theory and ethical application of the Enneagram.
The IEA USA is off to a fast start:
In 2009 it became a 501c3 organization with nonprofit status. A board was named, consisting of Deborah Ooten (Vice-president), Lynda Roberts (Secretary), Samantha Schoenfeld (Treasurer), Suzanne Dion, Tom Flautt, Melanie Moeller, Beth O’Hara, Gayle Scott, and yours truly as 2010 President. We are currently working closely with the global board to create a model that most effectively utilizes IEA resources for the interests of all members. We are working on a plan to coordinate and communicate Enneagram-related activities, both large and small, across the country so interested people will know where to go to find the latest insights and applications.
For additional information on the IEA USA, you can visit the IEA website at http://www.internationalenneagram.org/USA/index.html. To find out how you can become involved, feel free to contact me at mario.sikora@internationalenneagram.org.
It is an exciting time for the Enneagram
world. Use and
understanding of the Enneagram is exploding across the globe at the same
time
that communication tools such as Facebook bring people together and make
it
easier to share.
We encourage you to stay tuned to this
page and to be involved
in the IEA USA as it grows and develops.
Together, we can bring about the
IEA’s
vision:
Mario Sikora
President
IEA-USA Board of Directors
