Enneagram Subtypes – 27 Paths in Life
A weekend workshop with Peter O'Hanrahan
March 7-8, 2009
Grand Rapids, MN

The Enneagram is a powerful system for learning about yourself and the people in your life. It describes the point of view and the motivation of nine personality types, and can provide important strategies for your personal growth and relationships.

The study of the instinctual subtypes provides further insights on how to apply the Enneagram for self awareness and improve our relationships at home and at work. According to the Enneagram system, there are three powerful biological forces – self-preservation, social and sexual or one-to-one – which combine with the nine personality types to create 27 variations.

Everyone has all three instincts, but the one that is most central to you creates a particular style and focus of attention – your subtype. How do you spend our time and energy in daily life? What are your important projects? How do you participate in home, neighborhood, politics or religious activities? What do you need to feel secure?

Many people say that subtype differences can be more crucial than personality type issues. At the intersection of archetype and biology, the study of subtypes provides an excellent way to examine your behavior and activities. With this view, you can:

• Work with your type structure and know when the passion of your type is running the show

• Bring discernment to your choices and decisions about how you spend your time and energy

• Discover what is an authentic expression of who you are versus an automatic or habitual pattern

• Understand the challenges and potentials in your significant relationships

Along with the personality types, subtypes help us celebrate human diversity and appreciate each person’s journey. In the Narrative Tradition, nine panels of workshop participants will share about their experience of the subtypes in a way that builds conscious community. The weekend also will include lectures, guided inner practices, breakout groups and handouts.

In this workshop, you’ll explore:
• The strengths and challenges for all 27 subtypes

• How the emotional habit (passion) of your personality type is “discharged” through your subtype activity

• Relationship issues and areas of conflict and cooperation between the subtypes

• Using the knowledge of subtypes to examine your major projects in life

• How to create balance and health by working with each of the three instincts
