2007 Conference Press Release
San Francisco Bay Area Hosts International Enneagram Conference
Personality Typing System’s Function as a Transformative Tool to be Explored
Cincinnati, OH – July 6, 2007 -- The International Enneagram Association (IEA) will hold its 13th annual conference at the Sofitel San Francisco Bay hotel in Redwood City, California, from August 2 through 5. This year’s theme, “On the Path to Global Unity: The Enneagram as a Transformative Tool,” will feature keynote speaker Brian Swimme, noted author and visionary. Swimme is a mathematical cosmologist whose primary concern is the role of the human within the Earth community. He is on the graduate faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Angeles Arrien, a cultural anthropologist and award winning author, educator, and consultant will deliver the endnote.
The Enneagram is a personality typing system that offers insight into interpersonal dynamics and personal growth. Psychologists, business consultants, coaches, and spiritual teachers use it. “More than any other tool in use today, the Enneagram helps you understand why you behave the way you do, what motivates you, and how you relate to others,” explains Beatrice Chestnut, president of the IEA.
The Pre-Conference Day offers three tracks:
– Introduction to the Nine Enneagram Types – Panels facilitated by Sharon Berbower, Beatrice Chestnut, and Deborah Ooten, OR
– In “Search of the Tenth Point” – Self-realization through the Enneagram, an experiential workshop with Leonard Carr, OR
– The Enneagram and Relationships with leading Enneagram teachers David Daniels, Russ Hudson, Terry Saracino, Jerry Wagner
Throughout the rest of the three-day conference, a wide array of Enneagram-related insights will be presented, including a panel of business executives talking about how the Enneagram is used in their company and a panel of parents discussing ways the Enneagram has helped them in raising their children. Conference sessions will also include ways to understand the types through movies and television, ways to work with the Enneagram system in spiritual work, and movement, medical, and psychological applications.
The Institute for Continuing Education is a cosponsor of the event. Attendees at the conference can obtain continuing education credit in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage/family therapy, nursing and alcohol/drug abuse counseling.
The IEA was founded in 1994 with the mission to provide a worldwide hub for the sharing of all developments in the theory and ethical application of the Enneagram. Today, there are nearly 2,000 members from around the world.
Information and registration for the conference is available at www.internationalenneagram.org or by calling 513 232-5054.
